With the new “Omicron” Covid variant threatening another wave of infections, President Joe Biden is urging fellow Americans to mask up. Speaking from the White House on Monday, Biden implored, “Please wear your mask when you’re indoors, in public settings around other people.”
That is unless one is vacationing on an island playground for the super rich, as the president found himself over the Thanksgiving holiday. The shopper in chief was spotted mouth-breathing in the aisles of Murray’s Toggery Shop in Nantucket, Massachusetts, despite a large sign in the window announcing the island’s mask mandate, “Required Face Covering,” complete with a visual aid. No doubt the proprietors were pleased to make a presidential exception.
First Lady Jill Biden appears to be exempted, as well. The same day her husband was urging Americans to cover their mouths, Dr. Biden let hers flap mask free to a room full of muzzled school children as part of the White House Christmas festivities.
Back during the 2020 presidential campaign, then-candidate Biden declared that, “Anyone who is responsible for that many deaths should not remain as president of the United States of America.” The Wall Street Journal notes, “At the time, the U.S. had recorded 220,000 Covid deaths. Covid deaths this year have now surpassed the toll in 2020 with 350,000 since Inauguration Day.” Biden promised that if elected, he would “shut down the virus, not the country.” So far, the only number seeing a steep decline is Biden’s public approval rating which no amount of spin can mask.
