The Walt Disney Company is discovering that political elephants are not afraid of mice.  Last month, Disney entered the fray over Florida’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill.  The new measure, quickly dubbed by its opponents and the media as the “Don’t Say Gay” law, bans the instruction of sexual orientation and gender identity in Florida’s kindergarten through third grade public classrooms.  It also limits sexual education to age appropriate materials as determined by the state.  Initially, the mouse house remained neutral.  After intense public pressure, however, the children’s entertainment company reversed course and declared the new rules an outrageous infringement on human rights.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tells Fox News, “You've got to wonder why is the hill to die on to have transgenderism injected into kindergarten classrooms, or woke gender ideology injected into second grade classrooms?”  Along with his state GOP colleagues, the 2024 potential presidential contender is considering revoking the Magic Kingdom’s special self governing status in the Sunshine State.  Florida Senator Marco Rubio tells National Review, “Disney is in unchartered waters because of the radicalism of its corporate leadership.”  The Republican, who may be eyeing another run at the Oval Office, adds, “They have made themselves the face of efforts to indoctrinate 5-year-old children on gender identity.”  With the copyright for the original Mickey Mouse pending Congressional renewal in two years, for Disney, politics is a very small world, indeed.
