He did it. When Donald J. Trump took to the stage at his Palm Beach headquarters, late Tuesday night, flanked by his towering offspring and Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless America” anthem belting over the sound system -- the moment was surreal. He had pulled it off. It was really happening. The 45th president was now America’s 47th-elect. The Trump Restoration had begun.

To the astonishment of his tormenters, Trump’s return to power is fueled by the popular will and an expanded, multi-ethnic, working and middle class coalition. Throughout the election, Inside Washington has alerted you, dear reader, to the rightward migration of Black and Hispanic voters. On Tuesday, a stunning number went full MAGA. In Georgia, one out of four Black male voters helped the Republican nominee reclaim the Peach State. In North Carolina, Trump prevailed over Vice President Kamala Harris with the support of one in five Black men at the polls. In Florida, 23 percent of the state’s Black voters chose red, including 35 percent of Black men.

Across the country, two million African Americans ignored America’s first Black president, Barack Obama, and First Lady, Michelle, hectoring demands to elect their “dear friend,” Kamala. One out of five Black voters say the cagey Democratic nominee was “too extreme.” Over 25 percent of Black voters now prefer to self-identify as “Independent.” Democrats and their anguished allies in the mainstream media may never recover from the shock.
